In the first decade of the nineteenth century, Seth P. Staples (Yale 1797) opened a school for law students in New Haven. In 1824 the school became affiliated with Yale College. Charles William Ramsdell, Sr. (1877-1942) was born at Salado, Bell County, Texas. His entire career was associated with the University of Texas (UT), which he entered as a student in 1900. He received B. A. and M. A. degrees from UT in 1903 and 1904, respectively, and a Ph. D from Columbia University in 1910.
